About

Sara Gooderham

Over the past 20 years or so, I have built my practice as a financial advisor guided by my core business values of integrity, transparency, trust and respect.

I came to the profession as a young woman with an unusual wealth of life and professional experience for my years. At that time, I was already a business woman, a wife and parent, a landlord and an employer. As a young adult, I had traveled much of the globe and learned to speak three languages, in addition to my mother tongue of English. Travel and discovery remain an enduring passion of mine.

Another passion has always been my love of learning. As a child, I wanted to grow up to be a teacher. Although I did become a teacher for awhile, the interruption of marriage and the arrival of children, took my life on a different path. I found my true vocation as a financial advisor after some years running a small business, as a social entrepreneur, together with my husband and life partner.

I am often asked what attracted me to the profession of financial advisor. It is true that I am at ease with the mechanics of money, another language which I readily learned as a young adult and business woman.  But, my real interest has always been in people and their well-being. That is what motivates me every day of my professional life.

My clients come from all walks of life. They are teachers and academics, professionals and business people, artists and scientists. What we share are common values and a desire to make the world a better place.

From social entrepreneur to financial advisor, I have long believed in the power of business to contribute to positive change in society. A number of years ago, I launched In the White Financial Planning Services to provide customized financial plans and services that fit with the values and life goals of such like-minded investors.

In addition to my passion for helping people meet their financial goals, I am President of the Board of Directors of Youtheatre, a theatre group that for 40 years has been producing original, thought-provoking dramatic performances for young people.

I have an office in downtown Montreal and also on the Plateau where my husband and I have created an innovative green living space on the roof top of our Victorian home.

Professional Background

I have built my practice as financial advisor largely in association with PEAK Financial Group, an independent, diversified financial services firm, based in Montreal Quebec where I live and work.

I first joined PEAK in 1996 when, as a Mutual Fund Representative, I was looking for an independent, client-oriented dealership with whom I could forge an enduring partnership. I am now an Investment Advisor with PEAK Securities Inc. and since 2007 am licensed to practice in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. (PEAK Securities Inc. is an IIROC registered, full service investment broker and a member of the Canadian Investor Protector fund. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of PEAK Financial group).

Since 2001, I have held the professional title of Financial Planner, the only recognized financial planning designation in the province of Quebec. This allows me to provide independent financial planning advice for a fee in the province of Quebec.

To fully round out the financial services and products I am able to offer, I also hold the title of Financial Security Advisor in the province of Quebec. This allows me to provide insurance products from any number of insurance companies including life and disability insurance, segregated funds and annuities. (Note that I offer insurance and financial planning products and services as an independent representative under the name In the White Financial Services. These services are offered independently of PEAK Securities Inc.)

In addition to these professional qualifications, I constantly up date my knowledge through continuing education, as well as professional seminars and workshops.

Because financial planning is a multi-disciplinary profession that requires extensive knowledge in many areas of expertise, I also rely on a network of professional advisors (lawyers, notaries, tax accountants, etc.) who I consult regularly and who I will refer directly to clients if the need arises.
